The Importance of Hydration for Your Skin

We are made of up of 50% water and our skin, being the largest organ in our bodies requires adequate hydration to perform at its best. The benefits of keeping your skin properly hydrated are:

  • Ridding your skin of toxins- Without proper hydration your skin can’t rid itself of toxins. This causes skin inflammation and irritation.
  • Slow the aging process- Staying well hydrated can help maintain your skin’s elasticity and combat the appearance of premature aging.
  • Fight oil and acne- Did you know that dehydrated skin sends signals to the glands to produce more oil as a defense mechanism? By keeping skin well hydrated, it becomes less oily and acne tends to be less aggravated.
  • Improve the appearance of your skin- A lack of hydration can make your skin look dry, flaky and tight. Not only does keeping skin moisturized help it appear more plump and supple, but it also helps address surface dullness by combating the buildup of dead skin cells.

How do you  increase your skin’s hydration?

Besides the obvious consumption of H2o, a strong at home skin regime is imperative. Did you know there’s a difference between hydrating products and moisturizing products? It’s very easy to assume that they do the same thing, but they don’t. Hydrating products are formulated to help increase water content to the skin, ultimately resulting in a plumper appearance. Meanwhile, moisturizers help prevent skin’s water content from evaporating into the air. It’s best to apply a hydrating serum followed by a moisturizer every morning and night. We recommend Aspect Dr Skin Care and Cosmedix skin care. They are both Australian owned companies that produce a fantastic range of clinical skincare products.

Peels are also a fantastic way to hydrate your skin, particularly a Lactic Acid peel. Lactic Acid peels are alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), derived from milk and contains some of nature’s most effective free radical fighters. When paired with a Microdermabrasion the results are even better.

Another in clinic treatment to consider are Beauty Boosters(also known as Skin Boosters, or Micro Fillers). A Beauty Booster consist of hyaluronic injections designed to prevent premature ageing of our skin and to boost the radiance of our face. This can be achieved with a high concentration of natural and free hyaluronic acid plus a combination of antioxidants, amino acids, minerals and vitamins, all of which are naturally present in our bodies.

My Botique have a fantastic range of Hydrating treatments for your skin including, dermal fillers and IV infusions (check out our last blog post for more info on infusions).  We also stock a comprehensive range of skincare products that offer the best at home hydration methods.
